Make It Better - Player Activation

Why do we need your credit card information?

We are very serious about the online safety of Generation Cures members, kids and parents alike.

In an effort to ensure responsible online behavior, we have put into place a system that requires a parent to activate a child's account. However, since many young users of the web have become savvy about working around "parent permission" systems, our sign-up requires registration using credit card verification. The credit card requirement is a proven method to help us prevent kids posing as "parents" from entering the site. It enables us to confirm that individuals registering as adults are, in fact, adults.

At the same time, we recognize the sensitivity of disclosing credit card information, especially when all Generation Cures content is free and open to all members. When we take your credit card information, we simply run an approval for a $1 charge to verify that the card is valid. Ultimately, the charge is never posted to your account. In fact, we delete your credit card information immediately after receiving verification that your card is valid. While we ultimately hope that families enjoy, find value, and are motivated to make gifts to Children's Hospital Boston through Generation Cures, those transactions are managed separately and are in no way linked to account registration. We will, at all times, honor the privacy and security of the information you provide during the account registration process.
